Challenge: A New England-based hydroponic agriculture operation desired consistent water quality to feed growing tanks. Tanks required feed water with a precise dosing of nutrients. Feed water bacteria reduction and mold spore elimination were key concerns as well. Supply was inconsistent as water was used to top up tanks but was also required in large batches to refill tanks after tanks are drained and cleaned. Supply of 10 GPM was required for filling growing tanks.
Solution: Atlas and Pure Flow designed a reverse osmosis (RO) system to feed the hydroponic growing tanks. Pretreatment included a water softener, carbon filtration, and cartridge filtration for sediment removal. The RO was a Suez E4 producing approximately 5 GPM of RO permeate. For bacteria reduction, feed the the tanks was driven by a recirculating loop that included UV and sub-micron filtration on the loop out. Prior to feeding each tank. Minerals are dosed at each point of use with the RO feed ensuring that dosing is consistent.
The system met all end user requirements and Atlas and Pure Flow were engaged to provide a duplicate solution for an expansion project. The project demonstrates our ability to use our core product offering - high purity water RODI systems - to solve challenges in burgeoning industries.
